XXIII Bragança Traditional Games 2024 Edition

On May 1st, the Municipality of Bragança, in partnership with Association des Jeux Populaires of the District of Bragança and in collaboration with the Juntas de Freguesia of the Concelho, is organizing the XXIII Meeting of Traditional Games of the Municipality of Bragança, in the village of Babe.

Traditional games, handed down from generation to generation, are a precious source of inspiration. cultural heritage that must be preserved and promoted. Valuing the past to better build the future, in a harmonious and sustainable way, is the strategy we defend at the Municipality.

In this spirit, we invite everyone to take part in this XXIII Rencontre des jeux traditionnels de la Municipalité in the modalities that will be in competition. Namely: Fito (in pairs), Raiola (in male/female pairs), Malha (in male/female pairs), Relha (individual), Ferro (individual) and Paus (individual), for general participants, Tração à Corda and Course en Sac for children, and, for young people, Tração à Corda, Raiola and Malha.

Please note that the same pair of participants can only register in one of the following modalities: Fito, Raiola or Malha.

At this meeting, representatives of the Municipality of Bragança will be selected for the 3rd Championship of Traditional Games of the Terras de Trás-os-Montes, to be held on June 16 in Mirandela, including the following games: Fito, Raiola, Malha and Relha, male generals; Raiola and Malha, female generals; Tração à Corda, Raiola and Malha, male and female, ages 16 and 17; Raiola, male and female, and Tração à Corda, ages 13 to 15; and Tração à Corda and Course en Sac, children and young people ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 12; exclusively for residents of the municipality.

The program

  • 9:00 am - Gathering
  • 9:30 a.m. - Games start
  • 1:00 pm - Lunch
  • 3:00 p.m. - Awards ceremony

Details :

6 to 9 years - Benjamins (8 participants)

  • Tração à Corda game - 1 team of 4 members per municipality (2 women and 2 men)
  • Jeu de Course en Sac Féminin - 2 female members per municipality
  • Men's Sack Race - 2 male members per municipality

10 to 12 years - Infants (8 participants)

  • Tração à Corda game - 1 team of 4 members per municipality (2 women and 2 men)
  • Jeu de Course en Sac Féminin - 2 female members per municipality
  • Men's Sack Race - 2 male members per municipality

13 to 15 years - Initiates (8 participants)

  • Tração à Corda game - 1 team of 4 members per municipality (2 women and 2 men)
  • Female Raiola game - 1 team of 2 female members per municipality
  • Male Raiola game - 1 team of 2 male members per municipality

16-17 years - Juveniles (12 participants)

  • Tração à Corda game - 1 team of 4 members per municipality (2 women and 2 men)
  • Female Malha game - 1 team of 2 female members per municipality
  • Male Malha game - 1 team of 2 male members per municipality
  • Female Raiola game - 1 team of 2 female members per municipality
  • Male Raiola game - 1 team of 2 male members per municipality

  • Female Malha game - 1 team of 2 female members per municipality
