Tomar's Convent of Christ unveils an immersive experience for the Route of the Templars

This exciting immersive experience, as part of the Medio Tejo Templar Route, is a new and enriching tourism offering for visitors to the region. This initiative combines various resources linked to the Templar theme.

Andreia Galvão, the convent's director, is keeping the suspense alive until Wednesday's public presentation. She emphasizes that the new room will provide visitors with information about the Templar heritage and history, encouraging them to explore the Médio Tejo territory. The project involves several of the region's municipalities and is of great importance to the Convento de Cristo as a tourist and cultural establishment, as well as to the Intermunicipal Community (CIM), which is banking heavily on the success of the Templar Route.

The Route of the Knights Templar in the Medio Tejo is the result of an initiative by the CIM Medio Tejo, approved within the framework of the Line of Support for the Tourist Enhancement of the Portuguese Tourism Interior. This innovative project is part of the intermunicipal Territorial Affirmation program of the Medio Tejo.

In addition, once the current work on the Dornes Tower in Ferreira do Zêzere is complete, CIM Médio Tejo plans to offer a video mapping experience illustrating the legends of the Dornes Tower and Nossa Senhora do Pranto.

Manuel Jorge Valamatos, President of the CIM Médio Tejo, points out that these experiences enhance visits to the territory's Templar resources and monuments, attracting a diverse audience from the youngest to the oldest. The Templar Route encompasses seven of the eleven municipalities in the Médio Tejo, including Abrantes, Ferreira do Zêzere, Ourém, Sertã, Tomar, Torres Novas and Vila Nova da Barquinha. The inauguration ceremony for the Convento de Cristo's "immersive experience room" will be held in the Scriptorium of this Tomar monument, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and will have welcomed around 300,000 visitors by 2023.
